Discord

At Seattle Voice Lab, our mission is to guide you to your ideal voice every step of the way. While we aim to schedule frequent and consistent lessons, we understand that there may be times between appointments where you might be struggling with a concept or are finding it difficult to self-motivate. Voice training is a difficult process, but it doesn’t have to be a lonely one.

The Seattle Voice Lab Discord server is a space where you can connect with others who are on the same journey to find their true voices. In the server, we provide various resources and tools to help you empower yourself at every stage of your voice training, including channels where you can ask for feedback on your voice, channels to discuss voice questions or share progress, and voice channels where our teachers host regular events, group lessons, and practice sessions, all for free. The server also provides a place for one to simply unwind and chat with others in a secure and inclusive community about anything from games and music to even just discussing your day. You also don’t need to be an existing SVL student to participate, so please feel free to apply and invite others who you think may benefit!

To join, please follow the provided link and follow the instructions once you are inside. We hope to see you there!

What is Discord?

Discord is an online community chat service that can be accessed either through a webpage, a program, or an app without any payment requirements. Users on Discord can join servers, like ours, and communicate through either text, voice, or video in various different server-specific channels. For more information, please check out the official Discord website.

What Happens on Seattle Voice Lab’s Discord Server?

Group Classes

On the Seattle Voice Lab Discord server, we host free weekly events to help you, our community members, learn new voice subjects and be able to practice with others with direct feedback! Unlike our one-on-one lessons or our group lessons (which are for up to four students), these sessions are broader with a much larger group of participants. You can volunteer to receive direct support, or you can feel free to listen in! Check out our event calendar on Discord for dates and times!

Weekly Voice Lessons

Held every week on a rotating schedule, we go over trans voice basics with introductory lectures and explanations on concepts, ideas, and some practice exercises that you can take with you into your week!

Guided Reading Practices

Held every week, these sessions give you a few minutes to practice out loud with one of our coaches and receive direct feedback, with some pointers on next steps!

Voice Masculinization Seminar

Held every other week, these sessions combine aspects of both voice lessons and guided practice with some relaxation exercises so that our transmasc students and community members have a learning environment and experience catered to their needs!

Office Hours

On the SVL Discord server, we like to reward active community engagement with some additional practice opportunities with our coaches! If you are an active student or graduate, you have the opportunity to join in on impromptu small-group practice sessions held throughout the week when teachers are available outside regular hours – just keep notifications on so you know when to hop on!

Scholarship

Scholarship Information

Seattle Voice Lab offers semi-annual scholarships for low-income individuals looking for trans voice training who cannot afford lessons otherwise. If this describes you, then you may be in luck, as this scholarship will provide you with a full suite of lessons to help you find your voice. Please check back regularly and follow us on social media to be aware of when we have a scholarship running!

Current Scholarship Opportunity

Seattle Voice Lab is offering two students scholarships for 8 gender affirming voice lessons, (valued at $160 for each 50 minute lesson). We will help you find your true voice! The scholarship recipients will be announced on the week of November 6th and submissions will close on November 3rd, 2023 at 11:59pm PST.

We will consider applicants based on financial need as well as how you feel your gender affirming voice will affect not just your life, but also the lives of others.

The application window for this scholarship has closed and the recipients will be announced soon.

This scholarship is made possible in part by Jeff Dyche, Professor at James Madison University. Thank you Jeff for your sponsorship!

Seattle Voice Lab offers its scholarships completely pro-bono to help reach members of the community that may otherwise struggle to find the same level of success without the dedicated time. As such, we would appreciate any support we can receive towards allowing us to offer these scholarships with more regularity and give back to the community.

If you would like to donate to SVL to help us give back, please donate to the following link: PayPal.me/ClaireMichelle If you would like to sponsor a scholarship or work together in other ways, please feel free to email our social media team at socialmedia@seattlevoicelab.com
